WEST NEWTON, Massachusetts (January 31, 2011) – After months of planning, Design Museum Boston unveiled their brand redesign, developed in partnership with Continuum and the readers of Core77, a popular design blog. The brand was launched at an event at Continuum’s headquarters on Thursday, January 27, 2011. The museum’s new logo and website are designed to appeal both to members of the design community as well as the general public, while reflecting the museum’s mission to educate the public about design.
Hundreds of design fans packed the lobby at Continuum to enjoy beer donated by Harpoon Brewery, tour the offices and studios, and mingle in a pop-up gallery showcasing the process behind the design of the new logo.
Continuum COO, Chris Michaud, kicked off the night’s presentation stating, “tonight is about design, the importance of design in our lives and in our community.” He went on to describe the initial thinking behind the new identity, “…this notion of a nomadic museum that can promote design in Boston is something very innovative, and we wanted to capture that innovative spirit in the new brand.” Sam Aquillano and Derek Cascio, followed Michaud with a short speech thanking attendees for their support, and Continuum senior brand designer Bryant Ross spoke about the design process. Shortly thereafter, several t-shirts featuring the new logo were raffled off to attendees.
The event, part of Design Museum Boston’s UNITE series, was the first of the year, following December’s opening reception for Creative Capital: Designed in Boston, on view at Boston City Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, through October 31.
Design Museum Boston is especially grateful to Continuum for their hard work on the branding redesign and for hosting the event. UNITE@Continuum couldn’t have happened without the support of many volunteers, who served food and drinks and handled donations.
The museum is planning future events and exhibits for 2011. More news will be available on this site in the coming months.
